However, and This is sad. SC State Parks, Make NC State Parks look like dumps, and have way better amenities, and locations. As for the roads. You would be hard pressed, on the way to Myrtle Beach, to tell where the road changes from NC to SC. I do believe SC uses a little more gravel.
Of course, One could argue, That SC pays for their roads with traffic ticket money, Especially in McBee
We used to also think that SC state parks were much superior than those in NC. However, our last trip south proved otherwise. Remembering the great time we had at Edisto Beach SP the last time, we returned to find camping fees of $40 +, and a park that had deteriorated terribly. The washrooms, especially the first one in the beach CG was so filthy that you had to wash on the way out. Returning home, what a pleasant surprise we had at Stone Mountain SP in North Carolina, at ~$18 per night. The washrooms were modern and very clean, and the CG was impeccable. We realize that its not on the ocean, but the hiking and waterfalls were tremendous. With this park and the better roads, we felt that NC was doing something right, notwithstanding the higher gas tax. JM2centsW
