We camp alot off road in our camper and the generator is a must have item. I have beefed up my trailer to run all of the 120VAC items we want on using an INVERTER an the 12VDC items direct connected to the battery bank. This is all planned to run down my battery bank to its 50% charge state by 8AM the next morning when we are usually allowed to run our small 2KW generator.
I connect my 30AMP trailer to the generator using the RV30A-15A Adapter and run my generator for around three hours each day to get my battery bank back up to its 90% charge state so we can do this all over again for the next day/night run off the batteries. This of course does not include the high wattage air conditioner or microwave.
Using the generator to run an air conditioner is not worth the effort for us here. Most places we go to here on the East side of the US does not allow the use of the generator except during restricted times. Never allowed after 8PM at night.
I guess it all depends on what you want to be doing when doing your RV CAMPING. Being a RV TRAVELER is another story I guess...
