Generator In Public Campgrounds Seward Homer

We have driven to Alaska twice, but in an SUV and used lodging after arriving in Alaska. This year we plan to pull a 29TT. I believe that a lot of the campsites on Seward and Homer beaches do not have electric. Has anyone stayed at these campgrounds and use Champion Generators? I know it is cool most of the time, but we have Newfoundland dogs and they sometimes require the temps to be lowered in the daytime. And I remember our first summer in AK it was down right hot during the day if we were inland. Not sure how much noise from generators is tolerated in these areas. Thanks for any input!
  • Thank you for the replies. We were there the summer of 13 and 15 and it was warm, especially inland off the beach. It seems like 77 there is hotter than 77 in FL! We left the dogs home during those trips. The are Newfoundlands and have much hair, so I do worry about daytime temps if the have to be inside. Although we live in FL, our house stays cool/cold.
  • Just spent some time in Homer and Seward for the GKs' spring break. Granted, it's March, not July, but can't imagine needing AC at either location if one is camped near the beach(es).

As noted above, the sites on the Spit and at the Seward muni campground are pretty close together for generator use.

Circa 0800 in Homer last Thursday (Friday?) saw a couple of kayakers leaving Homer for Halibut Cove......air temp of 35-ish, breeze, fair degree of chop, they're tougher than I am.
  • I agree with Sue and Joe about disliking the noise from a continuously-run generator.

However, if you don't want to pay for a campground with electric hookups in Homer, try Deep Creek State Recreation Area at Ninilchik. It has 100 campsites on the beach with restrooms, water, a constant breeze, and great fishing and eagle watching for $15/night. The campground is always full of Class A motorhomes running their generators at all hours of the day. Quiet hours are 11:00 pm - 6:00 am, so you don't have to turn off the generator at 10:00 am. Very popular campground with fishermen, so you will likely need to make reservations to stay there.

Like Joe, we stayed at Stoney Creek in Seward too. But there was an RV caravan there at the same time, so it was packed and our site was pretty cramped.
  • If you parked next to me and ran your Champion Generator all night I would offer you some free gas with honey the next morning. Do your self a favor and buy a Honda or Yamaha generator and some solar panels with four 6 volt batteries. Also an inverter.
