Getting T.I.P. deposit when returning

We'll be returning to AZ in a few days, and need to know how to deal with the 6 month temporary import permit for the tow vehicle.

We'll probably use the Sonoyta crossing. We see the Aduana, Banjercito a few km below town.

How to we do it? I've read that you go to the banjercito to get your deposit back.

- Where do you return the decal, receipt and customs paperwork?

- Do you go to the banjercito first?

On a related issue, I know there's a booth to return TIP stickers across from the Nogales 21km entry station. It's less of an issue for people with 10 year RV permits since they don't have a few hundred dollars on deposit, but for people with cars, does the TIP return booth also issue refunds, or is it a multi-step process including going across the street to the banjercito?

I do not know about any deposit,, never had to deal with that.BUT the return of the stickers HAVE to be at the station about 6 miles south of the city of Sonoyta. Decals, Paper work and such there,, I had to go back from the National Park in AZ. after a discussion with another traveler..I did get to cross the border 5 times, You have to have your trailer/rv with you when returning the papers and decals.... A MUST DO.

    Good luck

Unless things have changed since last year, the office is significantly further than 6 miles south of Sonoyta. It is just south of Caborca. See Tallyho69's post.
  • Presuming that you paid by credit card, all you have to do is turn in your decal before the expiry date and the refund is automatically applied to your card, usually within a day or two.
  • Shortly before Caborca is a huge facility on the left, about 100 miles before the border, just past the railroad tracks. Cross over through the barricades and there is plenty of space to park. Walk between the buildings through the breezeway, and that's where the woman has her office. For a small vehicle, you drive in. With a moho and a tow, she will come to you.

It's our border crossing of choice.

The deposit is credited back to your credit card.
  • I have never had to pay a deposit but normally anything to do wit money must be done at the Banjercito. They do not trust employees with money!
