Getting thru Dallas

I live in McKinney, north of Dallas on 75, and often take 75 to 45 to 20 to 35E when traveling to Fredericksburg. Best after 9 am or before 4 pm or on a weekend. Generally no problem unless there is an accident. But that can happen on any highway.

If you are coming back on I-30 it is easy.I-30 to 635/20 South to I-35E South.

Since you are asking about that route, I assume you are going through Oklahoma and will be coming into Texas on US-75 at Denison.

Having lived close to 30 years in Dallas, I'll take 75/45 straight thru almost anytime.

As you are probably aware, 6:30 am til 9 am - US-75 from McKinney to near downtown Dallas is slow, often stop and go in many places. There is also some traffic southbound through Allen, Plano and Richardson during the afternoon rush-hour.

Frankly at those times, the straight thru route is usually easier than trying to deal with rush-hour traffic on I-635, especially through Garland and Mesquite. The worst part of US-75/Central Expressway traffic will be north of I-635.

My preferred Dallas radio station for traffic information is AM 1080, KRLD. Every 10 minutes "on the 8's".

If the OP is coming in from Arkansas why, how would I-75 be a good rout?

I also wonder why you're coming through on 75, unless you want to go through Oklahoma. The shortest route from Arkansas to San Antonio would probably be to take I-30 to I-35, but I would probably take 635 around the city if you're coming in on I-30. I'm old enough that I remember when 635 (LBJ Freeway) wasn't there (back in the 60s). Which reminds me, it fascinates me that back in the 60s a few people became hugely famous by their initials: mainly JFK and LBJ. Is there anybody in the history of the world with initials more famous than those?

Arkansas is my home state, and normally I use I-30. But when I'm in north Arkansas, I will take I-40 to US-69 to US-75 because it is shorter and faster than backtracking to Little Rock or cutting south on the state to I-30.

Since the OP is obviously familiar with routes from Arkansas to San Antonio, and specifically asked about 75/45 - a tried to answer his question, not second guess his trip planning.

Actually it is US 75. And if you are heading to San Antonio area from northwest Arkansas, say Ft Smith or Fayetteville area, it is shorter and faster to head west to US69/US75 to Texas.

Sorry all, I guess I could have been more clear. We are in Ozark, AR on I40. We will come thru OK to US69/75 & down into TX. I am just tired of doing the trip around Dallas on 635 thus the question about going straight thru on 75.

From Ft. Smith take 271 all the way to Paris then 19 to Athens,31 to Waco
