Glacier Nat Park of Canada, bears, and group hiking

There are some great trails in GNP of Canada -- but the website says that you need to hike in groups of four or more because of the bears. So my question is this -- is it hard to find other folks...

I've heard it's easy to tell the difference between black bear and grizzly bear poop. Grizzly poop has a distinct peppery smell and contains pieces of noise-makers, like whistles.:)
