Glass Coverage on Toll Road

3 weeks ago I was heading North from HMO. I ran into some construction. They had oiled/tarred the road and applied a mixture of pea Gravel and coarse sand. Like a chip seal. They did both Northbound lanes. Really should have closed that side of the road. There were all kinds of signs warning drivers to slow down. Some Wild Mexican past me at over 100 KPH and peppered my windshield. Some chips and the windshield was like it was sand blasted. Creep!!! I always thought that the toll road insurance did not cover glass. I asked at the next toll booth and they sent me to the Seguro office. The clerk called a n adjuster that lived close by. yes I was covered but would have to pay the 20% deductible. Yesterday I was in HMO and Cristalauto replaced my windshield in an hour . I paid a deductible of 228 pesos. Great service and low price. I checked and the windshield has the DOT # Was a good day!

  • In Mexico part of the toll amount goes toward insurance if your vehicle is damaged on that road - it gets complicated - but when you pay the toll you should always get a receipt as proof - which is also proof of insurance on that particular section of road. I have heard stories of people hitting a pothole and not only getting a new tire but a new wheel - and the towing was paid too. We have never had an incident so don't know specifics but there are websites that attempt to explain it.
  • Wow! I don't think that would happen on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
