Actually not true. Old 66 wasn't replaced by I-55 in IL. Most of Old 66 still exists and is still in use in IL. Along I-55 as the frontage road is the Old 66 roadway. Other places it's gotten other highway designations but there are still historical markers indicating it was the Old Road. 66 was not the same roadway over the years. Throughout IL the various roadways are marked and still in use. Also in IL is the last remaining brick paved portion of Old 66 still in use as a regular roadway.
