Tom Snyder won us over with his Route 66: Traveler's Guide and Roadside Companion (2011). Jerry McClanahan updated his EZ66 Guide for Travelers with a 3rd addition (2013). Both these guys locate the last and many alternate routes of 66...there isn't just one 66, but there is the last one. One book with it all would require you to add overload springs, so get a good route book and leave the sites to what you encounter out the window.
We've driven 66's length over several segments starting in '09. There is lots of pavement left, but you can't drive some in a motorhome or even a sedan. If you think your close to the Route but not sure, look for the RR track and the power lines. Lincoln Highway here we come.
