Just as a heads up, the portion of route 89 beyond the junction of 89A and Page has been closed for a year or so due to a landslide. A bypass designated as 89T has been constructed as shown here.
We have used route 89A twice and there is a good climb and descent, but lower gears did the trick with no issues. FYI there is a nice Forest Service campground at Jacob Lake and a private campground with FHU about a mile away. The food at the Jacob Lake Inn was great.
