Since you are in the area in that timeframe why not consider attending the Truck Camper ralley starting on Nov 7? Ralley is at Smoky Bear CG between Gatlinburg and Cosby.

There is a thread on the TC forum and the Rallies,Shows, and Gatherings forum.

Yep, those campgrounds are a little farther in, towards GSMNP, if you happen to find a spot. All the others going to look at the trees might limit your choices.

We like nature, we are not very town people.

There are lots of choices in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg so you shouldn't have any problem finding some place to stay at that time. I agree about finding one near the trolley route, very convenient to get around town on. Gatlinburg is more walkable than Pigeon Forge is. It all depends on your interests and what you care to see. Do your research online, you can get discount coupons on there too. If you like the National park setting check on getting into Elkmont campground, it is fantastic but hard to get into being it is book up all the time.

We stayed at Misty River campgrounds(the quiet side)near Walland, East from Maryville. Drove to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge for the tourist stuff. Misty River Campgrounds is easier to get into and out of the Smokey Mountains, Cades Cove and over to Cherokee, Tail of the Dragon road too.

Your dates are good as far as UT football games as they are none in Knoxville on those dates. Have fun! A few years back we stayed there on a football weekend (Alabama game)and the area was packed with Alabama and Tennessee fans. Now, Tennessee was a better team in those days!

Watch out for University of Tennessee football weekends as many fans stay in the area those weekends. Stay at a campground that is on the trolley route in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We are going back next month. We love Cades Cove.
