Hamilton, Montana - Roaring Lion Fire
If you're planning on coming to the Bitterroot area or even just passing through the valley, you might want to check the status of Highway 93 south of town. It was closed (with a bypass) during the beginning of the fire Sunday (July 31), then reopened, but there's speculation that the fire could jump the highway. Also, the smoke here in Hamilton is terrible, at a "hazardous stay indoors level" according to the weather people.
No idea how long this may go on, but just check before coming. Better yet, stay away unless you have no choice. You can't even see the mtns anymore, the smoke's so bad.
UPDATE: looks like things are under control on the highway side. Still lots of smoke, but not as bad.
NEW UPDATE Aug 2: Ravalli County Sheriff - Highway 93 is closed from the intersection of Skalkaho Hwy south to Old Darby Rd. Detour is Old Darby Rd. Please avoid the area if possible.
