Headed out to Moab, UT

From Lake Tahoe next week for about 10 days. We are heading out on Hwy 50 to 70 in Utah, and not sure how we want to come back. Does anyone have any "must do" routes not on Hwy 70 you recommend? We've done the usual Escalante/St George route, and was wondering if going north up to SLC from green river would be worthwhile.

Don't know much about the area between green river and SLC.

  • Green River to Price is desert, then you cross the Wasatch Plateau and enter the Wasatch Mtns over Soldier Summit. A nice pretty drive. Plenty of services in Green River and Price both. Easy drive although the stretch above Helper is curvy a bit and climbs but nothing bad. A lot of it is 4 lane. Once in SLC, I-15 is horrendous most of the time, unless you can go thru on a Sunday morning. It's always under construction.
  • I might add, we've been to all the usual places, and we are looking for something different, like taking highway 6 out of Green river, north. Or maybe Highway 10 to 31 towards SLC. Just want to do something different.
