Every US state is different in the amount and type of information shown on your vehicle registration. Some show only the registered owner, some show both the registered and the legal owner. If your state shows the Legal owner, then you have to have a letter of permission to get a TIP. Even if you have set up a LLC in your name and and made the vehicle a company vehicle, you have to generate a letter of permission on company letterhead; the letter should identify the vehicle with make, model, year, VIN, and the dates you are going to be in Mexico. Sign and date it and you are ready to go. If you have a company seal make sure you emboss it. Maybe even add a Notary Public if you want. The more "Official" the better.
If the registration only shows the registered owner (you) then you have no problem. However, if there is a lien holder you should always let them know that you are leaving the US with the vehicle. They will have certain requirements you need to meet. Mostly proof of Mexican Insurance.
