I'd camp at Ninilchik or Stariski for a base. The Ninilchik is open in June Sat, Sun, Mon. As are Deep Creek and Anchor River, both close by. Some years are great King fishing for fish up to 40 lbs or so and the streams are small. You can be in homer in half an hour to charter out for sightseeing or fishing. Maybe some early rainbows on the Kenai, but too early for salmon. Plenty to explore....you can drive out past where Alaska the Last Frontier is filmed...and realize that it's only 15 minutes from McDonalds...so much for reality TV ;-)
