I would stick to the southern route on your way out. Years ago, when my kids were little we took a pop-up. We went from Grand Canyon up into Utah (Moab, lots of np), then on to Yellowstone and then went to Rushmore from there. We toured SAC base (I think it was in S. Dakota) All in 3 weeks about 30 years ago. If you haven't got one already and your going to a lot of N parks get a pass, annual or senior.
