- exgmanExplorerWanted to add, Austin has a station coming in to town that you could get fuel at but it's not very convienient. Eureka is next to impossible.
- exgmanExplorerYou can fuel at the east end of Fallon at a station on the left. Can't remember the name, but they have truck diesel pumps in back. There are a couple of stations on the way out of Ely that have truck pumps also. One is a Shell and the other is , I think, a Sinclair.
- colliehaulerExplorer IIII like 50 so much better then 80.
- jake2250ExplorerMy vote is for 50, Been to Ely via 50 out of Sacramento,, its a good road with very nice scenery, yeah it tightens up but not really that desolate, If your worried about fuel range carry a jerry can. Drive safe and have a good trip!
- dicknellenExplorer IIX2 what fireman93514 said. Take 50 E or W over I-80. Dick
- fireman93514ExplorerWe live along 50 in Nevada and have used it many times. It is not all that desolate. I prefer it to 80.
- dave54Nomad80: high speed interstate with services every few miles. Boring drive.
50: two or four lane, pavement needs work in a few places,70 miles plus between services. Interesting and scenic drive.
For us it is a no-brainer. 50 is our favorite drive across NV. - 4runnerguyExplorerUS 50 is our preference for heading west from CO. I'd say we use US 50 5x as much as I-80.
- KampingKrisExplorerI assume one can fuel at Fernly... then make it to Ely? Our friends are most concerned on fueling...
They are over thinking this I believe. If we go 80... it adds 137 miles to the trip...and... since the DW (that's me) hates to drive 8 hours at a time...I'm rooting for 50. - agesilausExplorer IIIWe did 50 and had no problems. It's a great drive.
