Have driven 89A several times and rest assured it is steep with lots of tight turns, switchbacks etc going up to Jacob Lake AND back down. We are headed for Zion for Thanksgiving week and would normally take that route, however:
While the road is good and gorgeous and should pose no problems.... keep in mind that Jacob Lake is around 8,000' so watch the weather very carefully. You do not want to drive this stretch of 89A if there is any chance of freezing/snowy conditions....the road ain't that good. :C
