Highway 95..........Nevada

So has anyone taken it? Once again we are making the trek to Oregon to visit the grandkids, and we are looking for a road that we haven't traveled. We thought about the 1/101 route, but with the "lets get all we can" attitude that the oil companies have here in Cali, we are not gunna pay $4.50+ a gallon for fuel. So we will head out of Cali ASAP.

Started planning our route and saw the 95. Its a short trip to Baker and then a left. We went the 395 last year and planned to go the 95 to get back home, but there was some fires and we ended up going back down the 395. Looks like it would be a nice sightseeing run.

What do you think?

  • We have traveled the 95 on many occasions between Las Vegas and Reno, there is quite a bit of history along the route but keep in mind that most of it is desert and not much to see but the road is good and you can travel at your own pace. If you go that route keep your eye's open for Buford T. Justice in the town of Goldfield as He like to cite those that go over the speed limit. Never been cited but He does appears out of nowhere.

  • Piece of cake and it's one of my favorite trips. I drive from Oregon to Vegas at least 6 times a year. Everytime I take 395 I regret it, Callifornia is way too expensive, too much traffic for me, the campgrounds have an inflated opinion of themselves. 95 is the way to go. Lots of curious things along the way. I won 800 bucks at El Capitan in Hawthorne last trip, (plus free camping). It doesn't get any better than that.

  • Have driven it many times. It is a very good 2 lane road with very little traffic. Plenty of fuel available along the way and lots of areas to overnight, both paid or dry camp. It is our preferred route from LV to Reno and north to Boise.
