Highway MX15 Recent road report

Has anyone been up or down MX15 this year? Any reports on road conditions after the storms or whatever? Construction? We have heard conflicting reports. Asking about all the way from Nogales to Guadalajara and beyond.

  • crossed lukeville no prob, no inspection.
Had 5 bags of 40# dog food and two cases of canned dog food. We also had 40# of Beef from a steer I had butchered and no health certificates for the 3 dogs. I know I rolled the dice but I have NEVER had a problem before. Lucky me I guess.
The roads are good did not notice too much difference. The roads after San Carlos are ROUGH shakes things up. Mazatlan was a breeze no construction, road from La Penita to Lo De Marcos looks like it has been washed out but very passable. BIG pot hole on the south bound lane also you have to go into north bound lane to avoid. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. Here we are in Lo De Marcos drinking beer to cool off!
  • With no dark driving, and not leaving until 7ish in the mornings, we drove in one day from Ajo,Arizona to San Carlos, San Carlos to Mazatlan. Sat through Sonia, drove 3 hours to Tepic. If it hadn't been for the blockade at La Barca, would have comfortably made Patzcuaro from Tepic in one day. No, we don't drive like maniacs, either. Roads are just fine.
  • We arrived in Zihuatanejo yesterday. Entered in Sonoyita, took 2 to 15, then ran it to Morelia, then down the mountain. The roads are all normal. Some great ones, some bumpy ones. Lots of construction, but no delays. Yes, there was a blockade between Guadalajara and Morelia, so we were put off onto the libre, which was also blocked. None of that has anything to do with construction, just part of the adventure.
End result? The roads from Sonoyita to Santa Ana, and Santa Ana to Morelia, and Morelia to Zihuatanejo are normal.
  • Some friends who live in Mazatlan and have been driving up and down that road for years said it is in pretty bad shape. Trying to get more details. Does anyone have any specifics?
  • Leaving Saturday from Yuma to travel to Guayabitos so I hope this has improved by the time we get there.
  • There is still blockades at Vicam but they were only stopping commercial trucks when we came through. Roads in pretty good shape, some construction but they are setting the detours going on the roadways (four lanes to 2 lanes). There were some rough spots but nothing too bad. We found the drive down one of the best we have had with so many new sections and ones they are working on.
  • I hear there is still possibly up to 2 chorus delay near Hermosillo because of blockades. I have also heard that there is quite a bit of construction, I suppose due to storm damage. Good news, the north access road into Celestino is in good shape, apparently. I am not planning on making San Carlos in one day, just in case.
