Is a 5$ fee per transaction typical for US credit cards? I don't pay any fees on my side and I get 2% cash back. ATM card on the other hand has fees for every transaction in a bank different from my own.
Not sure how typical the $5 is, that value is combination of we see in the US taking funds out of an (non-affiliated bank) ATM with a debit transaction, $3 on the US side and $2 from our bank.
That's why I use my credit card for ATM debit. On mine there is no fee but the interest start from day 1. If you overpay your card and end up with a negative balance there is no interest. With my ATM debit card I would get something similar to your 5$.
