Actually, going straight through Richmond is better AT THE MOMENT. There is no construction to speak of. If there are no accidents, you're talking about 15 minutes MAX from top to bottom. The 295 loop adds a half hour or so. I did this just a few months ago, went straight through at 4PM on a Monday before Thanksgiving, and then a week later, in the fog and rain at about 9PM, went the 295 loop, just for S & G going northbound. I felt like the bypass lasted forever.
