Hurricane Ut to Albequerque NM

We are currently in Hurricane and would like to go over to Kolab, Page, Flagstaff then to Albequerque. Have any of you travelled this way in the last month or so? Is the detour still on at Page on 89 and should we use 89A at Fredonia?

Thanks
  • The 89 detour south of Page (89T) is as good or better that the original road.
  • I posted my reply in the other forum but here goes again:

If you're in Hurricane now your best route to Page is Hwy 9 through Zion - it appears you would be under the size limitations - to Mt. Carmel then south on 89 to Kanab and 89 to Page, then the detour road (very good condition) to Flagstaff and on to Albuquerque.

If you don't want to take Hwy 9 through Zion then pick up UT59 which becomes AZ389 with perhaps a stop at Pipe Springs Nat'l Monument (no campground) to Kanab and 89 into Page.

From Kanab to Page either route - 89 or 89A which is steep, will not necessarily give you any good stopping places unless you wanted to spend a night at Lee's Ferry along 89A. Other than that, other than nice scenery, there are no attractions requiring a stop along either road - 89 or 89A. Just be aware that from Fredonia to Jacob Lake is a climb and then you'll have a steep, curvy downhill from Jacob Lake. 89 from Kanab has no major grades and is fairly straight.

Many RVers travel both routes...we have.

    Have a good trip!
  • I was on 89A in Sept from Grand Canyon to Kanab UT it is the worst highway I have ever seen there is no service for anything, cell gas etc. and no shoulder on the road it was miles of white knuckle driving and I will never do it again
