Why are you required to have a Facebook account to view an advisory from a state agency?
Because it is a link to their facebook page. It's the fastest way to get information on what's happening right now anywhere in the world. Roads, weather, protesters, police activity, - you name it and if it's happening... it's posted on facebook. You just have to learn where to look for it.
I take it that you don't have a facebook account. If you are going to set one up do this...
1. Create an email account just for nonsense like facebook. Gmail is the easiest.
2. Come up with a name and a cute avatar for a profile photo. Don't use your full name and don't post your own photo. Lots of people use photo's of their pet or favorite sport or hobby.
3. Don't use your real birthdate. But be sure to remember or write down the birthdate you used for facebook. (also, be sure to set your birthdate setting to private so notifications of "Jeff is having a birthday today." won't automatically sent out.
4. Set your privacy settings. Don't allow just anyone to find you by searching for you ... google for the info on that...or after you setup your facebook account do a search on facebook for it. "How to set privacy settings on facebook".
5. Set your friends list to "only you".
6. Don't fill out your profile info. No school. No town. Nothing.
When you get done with all of that... you can check to see how your facebook page looks to "public" vs "just you and your friends". Then make changes until it's as private as you want it.
Before you take and post photo's, make sure the GPS tracker is turned off if they were taken with a camera or cell phone with this feature.
