Hwy 12 from Kooskia,ID to Missoula,MT

How is this road for a 40' motor home towing a car? Any tough pulls?

  • As others have noted, there are no hard pulls, highway follows the river until just before Lolo Pass which is about a one mile easy pull up to the top. When you get to the top of the pass, make sure to stop at the visitor center and check things out and take a break. As you're driving eastward from Kooskia towards Missoula, pull off the highway once in awhile and walk over to the river, it's really something. Clear water and beautiful scenery. Stop at DeVoto Memorial Cedar Grove and if you want a good campsite, the Wilderness Gateway CG can easily accommodate your outfit. Have a good trip and pull over once in awhile to let other cars pass. About 50mph and you will be able to enjoy the road and look around too.
  • Pretty easy route as far as hills go.

Beware though, it is almost one constant curve after another. Got tiring to me.

Fantastic scenery, although as a driver one cannot enjoy it. You're too busy steering into the next curve to look off road at anything.
  • We just did this ride in June from Lolo to Orifino Id.
Lolo pass was around 5600' as I remember it. No tough pulls to get there . Beautiful ride I would Recommend it.
