A previous poster recommended the North Cascades Highway (WA-20). A good recommendation if you have plenty of time to do it rather than going to Spokane all the way on US-2. Goes right through the NP and you can connect with US-2 at Wilbur which is south of Grand Coulee Dam.
Seeing that you are from Alabama you might not get up here too often...might as well see the best of the Cascades. In my opinion the N. Cascades Hwy is way more scenic than Stevens Pass over the mountains. The farther north the better. It might add a day or two to your trip to Spokane if you take your time, but I think it's worth it.
