I agree, it should not be problematic at all. Route 2 is a major east/west route through northern New England (and, reappearing after a span of exile in Canada, also the midwest and west).
The Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury, VT is an interesting stop for an afternoon. It's mostly a natural history museum, but has some quite eclectic other things as well. (That's Fairbanks as in Fairbanks scales, if you were wondering.) The nearby Athenaeum (public library) has a nice little art gallery, too, that's worth a visit.
