Hwy 285
How is hwy 285 in northern nm to Espanola? Grades and amount of traffic?

- From what starting point?
Using Santa Fe as a starting point as an example, there's a bit of an uphill and then mostly down hill all the way. Approximately a 1500 ft elevation difference over 25 or so miles. Don't recall anything extraordinary about this particular drive. - Towed my 35' 5er thru there from Clines Corner to Alamosa several years ago and don't remember anything memorable at all about any of it.
- 285 from I-40 to Espanola is fine but goes through Santa Fe. Depending on the time of day you may be better off going south to exit 276 on I-25 and taking the 599 by pass around Santa Fe.
