Hwy 308 Red Lodge MT

Is Hwy 308 PAVED heading east out of Red Lodge, MT to Hwy 72 south? Thinking of taking this route on our Harley and leaving our motorhome parked either in Cody or between I90 and Red Lodge.
  • 2chiefRus the last message was for you. Quoted wrong person somehow.

We did that ride in 2017 up chief Joseph in the silver gate to Yellowstone a ways with a stop in Cooke city , neat little town. Then we road the bear tooth to the red lodge. Wanted a quicker way back to Cody so we took the 308 to 72 back to Cody. Stayed at buffalo bill state park. The wind was really whipping on the bear tooth and catching the fairing on my street glide, would have been a more enjoyable ride on the soft tail. Can't wait to go back.

We stayed in Cody. There are several good places to stay there, but we have stayed a couple or three times at the (not sure on this spelling ;) ) Absaroka Bay. Very nice folks. If you are there in the summer, you may get offered a fresh tomato. (Important to an ole Southern boy a long way from home) Not the biggest RV park we have stayed in but very adequate. Short distance to fast food, groceries and downtown. Have a beer and a meal at the Irma Hotel. Wish we were going to be there with you

Cody to Red Lodge then back down 308 to 72 and back to Cody is a great ride. We have done that loop a couple of three times Last time we were up the way (I think in June??) there was a couple of lakes up at the top still frozen and the streams were running flood. Got several great pictures of the Beartooth.

Did you stay in Cody or near Red Lodge? Trying to decide where to camp for the ride.

  • thanks for the replies. We are hoping to ride a loop of Chief Joseph's, eastern section of Beartooth to Red Lodge but looking for a quicker way back to Cody than retracing our path just in case the day is getting too long for us.
  • Great ride over to Cody...good pavement, rolling after the big downhill out of Red Lodge.

Chief Joseph's and Beartooth highways make a long day but awesome ride.
  • My zooming shows paved too but drive slow and enjoy either way.
  • Hi 2chiefs - haven’t rode that one yet but a zoom in on google maps satellite view shows yep it is paved.
