hwy 62 in Utah
Going to Bryce,Ut. from Torrey,Ut. Is hwy 62 South off of hwy 24 a good road to travel with 40' 5th wheel. Map shows road in black and not red. Kind of leary.

There are no 18 percent grades (or sign stating such) and the hogback is whole 1/2 mile long. Some people make such a big deal about about highway 12 i just don't understand it.
Desert Captain wrote:Don't think it's 18%. I think you're referring to the sign in this Google street view. But 14% is still a pretty decent grade.mt1729 wrote:mt1729 wrote:You have to be kidding. I have been over it both ways numerous times. There is no 18% grades. Not that bad.Desert Captain wrote:Hamnet wrote:
Busskipper, watched utube. Convinced not the road for us. I wouldn't have a problem, it's the Wife sitting in passanger seat with shear dropoff and no rails in most places. Thanks.
Rode the 12 on my Harley last April ...
I wouldn't do it in a large RV. At one point the road was narrow, very narrow, no shoulder with huge vertical drops offs and then we round a corner and there is a warning sign:
Warning 18 per cent grade, steep curves next 4 miles... I kid you not.
No, not kidding... Don't know how you could miss the sign if westbound, might want to pay more attention especially on that stretch of road. :E
We rode the bike out of Torrey last April up over the pass and stopped for breakfast at Boulder {the Devils Backbone Cafe which is excellent but I digress}. From there to the top of the grade is known as the Devil's backbone and about 20 minutes out of Boulder the sign I described is on the right shoulder and takes you down the 4 miles to Escalante State Park. No place for a large RV.
Sorry I did not stop and take a pic of the sign but I was more than a little busy keeping the bike on that narrow, spectacular road while my bride reveled in the views.
