hwy 62 in Utah
Going to Bryce,Ut. from Torrey,Ut. Is hwy 62 South off of hwy 24 a good road to travel with 40' 5th wheel. Map shows road in black and not red. Kind of leary.

I wouldn't do it in a large RV. At one point the road was narrow, very narrow, no shoulder with huge vertical drops offs and then we round a corner and there is a warning sign:

That section is called "The Hog Back". No way in hell I'd take a 40ft fifth wheel through that section.- we have driven 62 and it is a decent road.

I kid you not.- Hwy 12 is great and you shouldn't fear it however if you feel you or the wife wont be able to handle it so be it obviously that is up to you and your choice. 62 is fine nothing wrong with it. You will find it is actually shorter and faster than 12. I used it several times this year less traffic for sure it is still a pretty road just not anywhere near the same class as 12 and totally different type of scenery.
If you do take 62 do make sure and take a day trip from Bryce to Boulder or even past it. 12 is just such an incredible road for scenery from Escalante to Boulder it is eyeball bustin' stuff. You could also hit Kodachrome Basin on the way back (or any other afternoon you are in Bryce it is not far maybe 25 -30 miles from Bryce), and the Boulder Mail trail over Hell's Backbone, and at Boulder take the Burr Trail out to the Waterpocket Fold. That gets to be a long day but otherwise you will miss some of the best scenery on this planet. If I had to cut one of those out it would be the Boulder Mail Trail while neat for sure and historic it does not have near the beauty of an out and back on the Burr Trail. - The Mile by Mile website may help you.

Smart choice - that's why I used that video - you know in the first 30 sec's if it is for you.
My DW - has the ability to close her eyes if she has an issue - or she will just yell at me . :B (I'm pretty much tone deaf)
But she has been in that seat for 50 years and probably a Million miles - and RT 12 is tame as to what we have done, You know what they say a Picture is worth a 1,000 words. We did Going to the Sun Road, in a class A before it was restricted - she loved it - and we skied with the Kids for 15 years and drove all those roads in the Snow, so just Imagine RT 12 or RT 550 in the Winter, Beautiful.
Again good choice for you, glad the video helped make it easy.
Enjoy the drive - look at Catching Goblins SP while in the area.

What is your comfort level?
IMHO most can easily handle RT 12 - I LOVE it, and have driven out of the way to drive it in my signature rig, so if you have been comfortable on the black roads or search the Scenic Drives this - RT 12 is fine for you. I really could not tell you about the other route as, IMHO, RT 12 is the only way to go.
BUT - I am comfortable driving in almost any condition, and I tend to search for the Routes that are Just Beautiful and Memorable. I am comfortable , with the route and if you are not I cannot recommend you doing something that is just not good for you.
So - Watch the Utube to see if it's for you - then decide.
