I live in Carrollton on US-27 just west of Atlanta. US-27 is a great alternative to I-75, but I do not want the secret to get out. It was expanded to a 4 lane divided highway back in the 90's. All rural areas are 65 miles per hour. The only slow spots are going thru Rome and LaGrange. Also, you get on I-185 between LaGrange and Fort Benning, on the south side of Columbus. South of Columbus to Bainbridge is very rural, watch your fuel in this area. a great stopping point is between LaGrange and Columbus, the Pine Mountain area with FDR State Park,Callaway Gardens, and Warm Springs, where FDR had his little White House. South of Columbus is Kolomokie State Park. It is a very interesting place with a very large Indian Mound and museum. Fort Benning is very interesting also with the National Infantry Museum, it is awesome.
