Wow, thank you folks for the fine ideas.
I should have stated more on the safety issue: Wife gets a little abrasive if she goes too long without seeing a little interesting scenery. The cab of the TV gets real small and occasionally I fear for my backside for all the tongue lashing I can get if there is nothing pretty to see when looking out the passenger side window.
I have heard that some parts of TX highways are long and generally boring. No problem for me. All goes back to the old cliché; "happy wife means happy life". Just trying to be proactive and be prepared.
Thanks all.
Consider slipping a sleeping pill in her coffee. West Texas has to be one of the longest least variety drives I ever made. OK 170 thru Kansas and east Colorado is pretty dull too. When I drove the speed limit of 80 in my van people passed me like I was standing still on one trip. In the MH I don't go over 70 so they really fly by. I also second the idea of a stop over in Fredericksburg. Darn good German food, Super Wallmart, fuel, etc. LBJ's ranch is nearby on the Pedernales near Stonewall. Fort Stockton has fuel and a WallMart, and a pizza joint. Not much else except tumble weed. The place is pretty booked up with oil workers. I usually go north from Stockton on my way to Santa Fe via 285 but sometimes go west to Deming and on up to Silver City. Scenery gets more variety in New Mexico.
