we ran into one of those sleet/snow storms out that way several years ago. we "saw" it coming on our weather website, so we stopped early at a roadside rest stop on the east side of Ft. Stockton. The interstate closed from Ft. Stockton to Van Horn. Next a.m. late, we headed west and when we got to Ft. Stockton, the cops were just letting the traffic get going again. There were hundreds, and I mean hundreds, of semi trucks held up in the town. The road was melting snow and slushy, all the way to Van Horn where the east bound traffic had been held over.
It was one of those experiences that makes a good memory and story later in life, but I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if we had been crammed in with all those trucks in town.
