Came across I 40 mic Sept. It's good all the way. Not much in the way of steep hills. 285 is a good rd but not much to look at, scrub and tumbleweeds. Drove it many a time in a truck. When it says watch for flooding, be sure and watch. I have seen many flash floods out there if it's raining.
