I-40/I-30 Memphis to Texarkana

Anybody driven that route recently? It used to be very bumpy from the uneven concrete slabs. Don't know if that's been repaired or not. Thinking of taking that route in a few weeks and wondering how bad it might be.
  • The I-30 part was repaved a few years ago and is in good shape. I was over it last fall.

Don't know about the I-40 part.

Back in the day the I40 on the ARK side was a nightmare the closer you got to Memphis heading East... All kinds of side things going on for the big trucks... It sure was not an Interstate with limited access going through town... You really had to be alert big time...

I even recall heading West through Memphis some right angle turns that pooped up out of no where with minimum notice and here you are in the wrong lanes big time. All kinds of black skid marks on the highway everywhere...

That was a few years back however and hopefully it is much better now...

  • We drove it two months ago. Actually it is quite good now. There is some new pavement. There was some minor roughness in the first ten miles or so out of Memphis but it was pretty well patched. As mild as the winter has been, it should not have deteriorated much in the two months since then.
  • Some construction in West Memphis beginning where I-55/I-40 separate (I-40 toward Little Rock).
Still huge construction project east edge of Memphis I-40/I-240 junction (new flyover and bridge expansion), particularly bad both morning and evening rush hour. Backups have spilled over to Sam Cooper, Summer Ave, and Covington Pike in the same vicinity. Facing another 12-18 months of construction. (Construction ongoing for 3-4 years already).
