As has been said, I5 through the Grapevine is nothing anymore. Hasn't been for 30 years. The only time there is a problem, is when it snows more than a quarter of an inch and they close it down. There is literally hundreds of highways in the U.S. that don't close down for stupid reasons like a quarter inch of snow that are used 12 months out of the year. Interstate 5 is just that- an interstate! Nothing more than a 6% grade anywhere. Long and straight. I can't even remember the last time I saw tire tracks in the emergency pullouts. You don't even hear big rigs even using their jake brakes anymore. And this route is WAY out of the way for Paso Robles. 101 is a straight shot.
