Interesting. I couldn't find any info online about electric hookups. It's been three years since we were through there.

I worked in NV for years around Austin, Eureka, Ely, etc. and don't remember any days of 105. The average highs in July are right around 90 degrees, but it cools nicely (into the 50's) at night.

As noted above, Bob Scott is a NFS CG right off the highway with no hookups but quite convenient. Many through travelers stop there as an overnight.

Great Basin NP is a great stop with a lot to do, but only a very few sites will handle your rig. Another option near Ely is Cave Lake SP. Again, no hookups, but on a lake in the hills above the desert valley floor. A variety of sites that will fit your rig. A little cooler up there, but busy with locals on the weekend. This is our standard stop when we're heading across NV on US 50 and not stopping to sightsee in Great Basin NP.

The last time we were through, Austin was the most economically depressed with the fewest services. Eureka has undergone a boom in recent years with the big mine north of town. Ely probably is the most tourist friendly of the three.

It's recommended that you drive on the top half of your tank. If you see fuel, add some. It's a beautiful drive.

Question for OP - how will you get to Hiway 50? From Mesa: We travel on 50 quite often sometime going north on I 15 to get to Delta UT via Page/kanab/St.George. But our new "favorite" is via Las Vegas , north on 93/218 to 50 at Ely ( good camping there)
We are headed to the northwest coast so will stay on 93 to Twin Falls then west on I 84 and NW via Tri-cities WA. Leaving here about Jun 19 or so.

6 miles or so east of Austin, high elevation, is a NF campground just off the highway.. named Bob Scott campground if you want to read about it and you can also use Google Earth to look it over.
Just across the state line into UT is a private owned RV park that looked good a couple years ago, but it's just a convenient overnight place, nothing special.

There's diesel in all of the towns on U.S. 50 - Baker, Ely, Eureka, Austin, and Fallon. And in the summertime, it's not all that lonely of a road, either. Most of the RV parks on 50 have a lot of permanent residents but are fine for overnight. Check RVParkreviews.com

It's an easy road to drive but there is one curvy downhill grade into Austin when you are headed west. Just go slow.

Be sure to see the Lehman Caves near Baker on the Utah/Nevada border. There's a small RV park in Baker or you can stay in the campgrounds of Great Basin NP. Definitely worth the time.

Grand Basin National Park is just off HW 50 and has a few big rig sites. Great place few people no cell service. Upper campgrounds are a steep climb. Fence art on way in is different Great cave tour. There is a public camp east of ELY but have heard a lot of long trem workers have kinda taken it over. There is one long curvey grade on 50 and gas is expensive but we like the shoe tree. There are long drives between anything.

We stayed at the KOA in Ely...not bad; I'm sure there's diesel there. Road is fine, few small mountains/hills and very little traffic. July.....well you can expect temps of 105+. Take plenty of water and make sure your cooling system is in top shape.
