The first sign warns truckers to stay in low gear the next eight miles. The next sign a mile later notes the increase in grade to 7% for the next 7 miles, so the total distance from the summit to Vail is eight miles, not 15.

No, westbound on Wolf Creek Pass in NOT 4 lanes the whole way. Unfortunately, right before the switchbacks, the westbound (downhill) is reduced to a single lane. Come around one of those corners and get surprised by a semi going 10 or 15 mph ahead of you and it will get your attention real quick. For an experienced mountain driver who is used to their rig, it may not be an issue. But the OP notes it is his first time driving this RV through mountainous terrain.
