We will be traveling from Canyonlands N.P. thru Colorado on I70 at the end of September. We have a v10 class a 37' gasser with a toad. I've heard everything from white knuckle to not a big deal. Also looking for some good places to stay and sights
First thing I'll insist on is that you leave out of Moab on RT 128 - My all time favorite drive in the US.
Next - You do Know that the End of September is the BEST tie to be in Colorado, - Aspen will usually turn the last 10 days + - in September - Just Beautiful.
Do you - Can You get a few extra Says to see a little of Colorado before heading out?
If only a few hours - then On I-70 - Exit 171 - Minturn take RT 24 will take you through Red Cliff and the Green Bridge - up to Camp Hale then into Leadville, this drive will be Spectacular, as it is filled with Aspen Groves - spend the Night in Leadville, Catch Dinner at Quincy's Steak House (http://quincystavern.com/) then drive out on RT 91 back to I-70.
If you have more time - at least a couple days, you could do a loop south to Black Canyon and Gunnison - possibly coming out in Buena Vista - Or Aspen and Maroon Bells (Maroon Bells Images)
I could go on and on but............let us know what might work - What are you looking for?????????????
Best of Luck, hope this is of some help,
Edit - Not a white Knuckle drive - Easy Peazy, IMHO.
Edit 2 - Colorado Old Post
Edit #3 - When leaving look at driving out to the East on RT 36 back to Hannibal, MO - Great road Less traffic and Just more Fun.
