I-90 from Minnesota to Rapid city

Can any one give me an idea of the road surface of I-90 say from Albert Lea to Rapid City? We will be going to the Black Hills in a few weeks, and have heard it is in rough shape. I have never traveled I-90, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

  • Agree with all the above. In some cases the roughness is from joints between concrete slabs - I think frost heaves have made them very rough in spots. Sure don't miss the upper Midwest concrete roads!
  • There are spots in Minn. that you may want to drive in the left lane for a few miles. In S.D. all is well. Just did that route 2 weeks ago.
  • They have been working on that section of road. The area from Rochester to Austin is much better than it was before. But, as you head further west from the Albert Lea area there are spots of the road that need replacement. Watch carefully and you can avoid most all the bad spots.
  • we did the passage Saturday, it is passable but in spots its a bit broken up.
