We have way more signaled intersections than round-abouts. I ride a motorcycle most of the time when not towing and I am a very defensive driver because of it. If you get hit on a cycle, you will not do well on a bike against a cage driver.
I feel much safer going through the roundabouts than the signaled intersections. The people around here have developed the habit of running red lights so being on a bike requires constant attention. With roundabouts, you know that everyone is coming through without stopping.
