4-way stops drive me nuts. I approach one, and I see a car already stopped there, and that car won't move until I come to a complete stop.
I'm that car -- if a car is approaching rapidly, I'll wait 'till he stops, or at least slows significantly, to be sure he's actually going to stop. Ok, so I don't wait until he comes to a full stop. If the driver slows well before the stop, then I'll go since then I know he saw the stop sign and is actually going to stop. I'm even more cautious when the other car is a truck or towing a trailer since they've got more stopping distance and if they aren't slowing well before the stop sign, I'm not sure they'll stop.
My dad spent a week in the hospital after getting t-boned at a stop light (he had the green, tire skid marks show the other car didn't even brake until he was in the intersection), so I'm super cautious about it.
