Someone mentioned 4-way stops. Don't get me started.
OK, I'm started. I happen to live in a large suburban tract where "being nice and polite and neighborly" is the prevailing attitude. (Yes, it's California, but the town was settled by Midwesterners.). Nobody wants to be thought of as rude.
So whenever there is a 4-way (and we have a lot of them), traffic often comes to a halt. Nobody wants to be pushy and go first -- lots of waving "after you," "No, after you." No one moves for quite a while.
This phenomenon is so common that folks here laugh about it on NextDoor and have given it a name -- "A Nice-ness Jam."
Disgusting behavior. Don't they know that Californians are aggressive drivers??
