I5 closed Northen Ca.

I5 is closed from the Oregon border south into Ca. at least past Shasta do to blowing snow and a lot of wrecks and spin outs, I have been checking the CHP traffic site and they have their hands full. All the area in the northern Ca. and Oregon have been snowing all day.

Looks like it's still closed, at 7 AM! check Ca.roads click
Be sure to check all roads in the PNW.
  • The I-5 between Eugene and the California border is a bit of a frozen mess. Right now there is 5 accidents on tripcheck. A crash has occurred, use caution.

The recent snow melted part way and is refroze. It will be a mess for the next 2 days.

    Be safe, KEN

    Respectfully disagree and agree! :h
Many new cars have great features for driving in bad conditions.
The problem is that marketing and sales people oversell these features, "Snow or ice no problem, with this cars all wheel drive and traction control no problem"!!'
These drivers have no concept of physics and the confection of friction, it is the cars fault when it slides off the road doing 60 mph.
  • looks like the traffic is starting to move,
Southbound traffic over the Siskiyou Summit is moving slowly expect long delays. I checked the CHP traffic site and they are still having problems ??? so things could change.
  • :E Wow, guess we had best stay home. Travel into the Vancouver BC area isn't advised either, the roads are in terrible condition due to snow and ice.
Too many people are not equipped to handle these conditions even when they are used to them, they simply should not be driving. Others overestimate their driving skills and their vehicle's capability. Here where snow is a regular occurrence I frequently see 4x4's being driven in a reckless manner, the drivers soon learn they don't stop or turn any better than anyone else.

  • Expect more of the same for the next week. East routes (97) even worse.
