I live in Colorado's high country not far from I70. Getting ready to head out myself. We are currently experiencing a break in the snow and bitter cold. The weather looks stable into the first week of January. You shouldn't have any trouble. Highs in Vail are in the 40's. Just time your transit over the top on I70 to hit the warmest part of the day.
