Keep an eye on the forecast. There's currently a 30% to 40% chance of snow on Saturday and Saturday night. We went to Denver and back on Christmas eve to pick up the FIL and ran into horrendous conditions. The forecast was similar as this coming weekend, and CDOT was caught unprepared. When we got through the tunnel, the road hadn't been plowed, no sand had been put down, and they hadn't even had time to put up any chain restrictions for trucks. We were behind a semi where the cab was going sideways down the road. On the other side, they had huge front end loaders pushing semis up to the tunnel. They closed the road westbound about the time we were going through to Denver to clear all the wrecks, hence the 2 1/2 hour trek mentioned above.
All I'm saying is, check out the forecast and radar on the morning you plan on leaving.
Also, you can check out the traffic cams on this page.
