Maybe I am being naive, but most of Canada felt very safe to us, compared to urban Southern Calif. The whole Banff/Jasper area was very pleasant. Yes, of course, don't leave valuables exposed. The idea of "pre-stashing" your stuff is very clever -- I never thought of that.
