Idaho falls to grand Teton np

So I have a 2000 tioga class C 32 foot and was wondering if I should make the drive from Idaho falls to the park via Teton pass thru the town of Victor, which I heard is a steep grade or am I better off the longer way along the snake River. I'm concerned about both the steep climb and drop going the shorter way via the town of Victor

I forgot to mention that our vacation will be in July so no road closures I would assume on either route
  • If you have ANY reservations about Teton Pass, you have already answered your own question. With a sizeable rig, it will be a challenge on the rigs brakes and your nerves.
  • Thanks for the great feed back, think I'm going the canyon route for sure. I would hate to burn out my brakes

We did the Teton Pass one time in our 24 ft class C. I will never do that again! Route 26 to Alpine Junction then up through the Snake River Canyon to Jackson may be longer, but your transmission and brakes will thank you.
x2 we have gone both ways and hands down it's 26 to Alpine& through Snake River Canyon. It's a great route. Teton Pass? Never again while towing!
  • I drove it with a minivan towing a brake-less popup, and I needed to descend part of the way in 1st gear (which irritated a few drivers behind me). A 32 footer is a lot of weight to control up and down that steep stuff.
  • We have taken the route through Alpine Junction on two different trips and it is very scenic while avoiding the steep grades.
