Idaho, Washington & Oregon route

We have a 32 ft Motorhome pulling a small car. We've mapped out our route, but have a couple question on the route.

1. Road from I90 west to MT 200 to Sandpoint, Idaho, is it fine for MH?

2. What is the best route from Pendleton, Oregon to Wallowa Lake to Boise.

Thanks,
Carla

You really have two routes, either up to La Grand on I84 then take Hwy 82 to WL (faster route). The other route is Hwy 11 to Hwy 204 to Hwy 82. I've taken the 204 route with our 35' motorhome as well as a 39' Toy Hauler/Truck. It's a bit slow but very very scenic.

There really is no other way in/out of WL so you're going to back track to Hwy 84. I'd be more inclined to take the Hwy 11/204 to WL then go back Hwy 82 that way.
  • MT/ID200 from the Missoula area to Sandpoint is fine. It follows a major river valley, without the passes the I90 crosses. Tourist facilities are less abundant than some other routes.

OR82 from La Grande is the easiest way to Wallowa Lake. Easiest way in, and easiest way out.

OR3 north to Lewiston has to cross the Grande Ronde at a low level, so grades in and out are long and curvy.

There is a paved Forest Service route around the east side of the mountains, connecting Joseph to Half Way, with a dam crossing of the Snake to ID71 (?). If you are used to mountain highway driving (e.g. like driving into the mountains north of Boise) it should be ok. Otherwise I advise going back around the west side.

Under construction and one lane and dusty, maybe doing 40 or 45 in some places. Lots to see looking out window at that speed. Total time was maybe for about 30 min rest of time going the speed limit. Somewhere the signs lead you to believe the road was complete mess, 8 1/2 wide, one lane etc. But no problems for us or any of the other hundreds of people in all type of vehicles.
